Um... well... I don't think I need to write much info in this post about who is Carlos Santana; pretty much a given. Saying that he is one of the greatest guitar players of our time is merely repeating the obvious. Apart from his technical and artistic abilities, he has managed to record music in such a variety of genres with success, moving from the very latin sounds of the early years, joining another guitar wizard, John McLaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra) in a form of jazz-fusion, and now, a huge name in popular music through his associations with current rock and pop artists.
Caravanserai is, in my opinion, his most emotionally charged album. It flows around a very personal form of music. We feel the latin roots, we sense the technical wizardry of jazz, but there is a sense of voyeurism into Santana's soul when we listen to the record. Song of the Wind is, by far, my favourite track of any Santana album. And I can only assume that guitar players who appreciate an inspired guitar solo will love this track.
